Service Events
While the Appalachian Student Ambassadors’ work focuses on primarily serving the University, the group also hosts 2 annual events that serve the local community. These are the ‘Neerly Naked Mile, benefitting Hospitality House, and our Canned Food Drive benefiting the Hunger and Health Coalition.
Canned Food Drive
The Student Ambassadors annual Canned Food Drive is a community-wide food drive that has proven to be one of the largest food drives in the High Country. All can and monetary donations go directly to our local Hunger and Health Coalition, benefiting families in Watauga, Avery, and Ashe counties.
This event needs participation from all across App State’s campus and the Boone Community! During the Fall semester, look out for Ambassadors and learn how to get involved! Each year, you can find us on campus, at the Family Weekend football tailgate, and maybe even on a visit to your apartment complex.
‘NEERly Naked Mile
This annual Ambassador event kicks App State’s Homecoming week and its focus is to spread awareness and provide aid to the unhoused population in Boone who struggle with adequate clothing for the High Country winters. During the 1 mile run around campus, runners are encouraged to “bare” it all for a cause – down to bathing suit coverage. As a registration fee to participate, runners donate articles of clothing or a monetary donation, all of which are donated to Boone’s Hospitality House.
