Here's The Thing About Maggie King

During her time at Appalachian, Maggie has worn quite a few hats. We asked her some questions about her Appalachian Experience, and her time as an Appalachian Student Ambassador.

Why are you an Ambassador? What motivates you to serve your University as a student representative?

"Ambassadors that attended Appalachian years ago eagerly took me on a tour and shared their home for me. My time serving in this organization is in hopes to share all the things I love about this campus with all those who visit."

What made you choose Appalachian State University?

"I toured 9 schools and made a spreadsheet with a variety of different factors. After each visit I would rank the colleges depending on the factors and calculate a total. Appalachian ended up in my top 2 and after a follow-up visit, I realized that I could see myself fitting in well in Boone. The adjustment was not an easy one, but I am so thankful I came to Appalachian and stayed here to become the stronger person I am today."

During your time here, what do you love most about Appalachian?

"I love that people hold the door open for you. I love that our professors know our name. I love that we have Chick-fil-A. I love when you are studying in the library for hours and lookup to see a group of your friends coming by. I love sitting in the Solarium when it is snowing. I love Appalachian for a million reasons, but most of all - it is the people that make this place so perfect."

When it comes to your time in Ambassadors, what is your favorite memory?

"My favorite memory for Ambassadors happened as I was going through the Membership Process in early 2016. I was standing outside of 1st interaction and decided to make small talk with this random girl. She turned out to also be a first year student and we decided to keep each other company throughout the process. I never knew in that moment that I had just met Hannah Harvey, my future roommate, best friend, confidant, and fellow Ambassador."

What is your favorite memory at Appalachian?

"It isn't a specific date on the calendar, but I can promise you that every student knows which day I am talking about. The first warm day of Spring. Sanford Mall is packed with people and campus seems to come to life."

Maggie King served The Appalachian Student Ambassadors this year as the Nearly Naked Mile Coordinator, a mentor for the Western Youth Network, and is a member of the National Society for Leadership and Success, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Beta Alpha Psi.
